At Go With That Therapy, we aim to make accessing counselling and EMDR therapy as straightforward as possible. If you're eligible for Medicare rebates, you can submit your claim directly through your Medicare online account after your appointment. Here's how it works.
How to Claim Your Medicare Rebate
Step 1:
Check Your Eligibility
To access Medicare rebates for counselling with an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, you'll generally need:
-
A valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from your GP, or another eligible referral pathway.
-
An active Medicare entitlement.
-
Available Medicare-rebated sessions under the Better Access initiative.
Eligible clients can access up to 10 individual Medicare-rebated mental health treatment sessions per calendar year, subject to referral and eligibility requirements.
Step 2:
Pay for Your Appointment
Appointments at Go With That Therapy are paid through our secure Zanda and Stripe payment system.
Following full payment, you'll be provided with a receipt or paid invoice containing the relevant details for your Medicare claim.
These include the service date, fee, Medicare item number and treating practitioner's provider number.
Keep a copy of this document for your claim.
Step 3:
Log In to Medicare
You can submit your claim through the myGov website or myGov app.
-
Sign in to myGov.
-
Select Medicare from your linked services.
-
Choose Make a Medicare claim.
-
Follow the prompts to begin your claim.
If you haven't already linked Medicare to your myGov account, you'll need to do this first.
Step 4:
Submit Your Claim
Follow the prompts to provide the requested information, including:
-
The person who received the service.
-
Confirmation that the appointment has been paid in full.
-
Your invoice or receipt and proof of payment.
-
Your therapist's Medicare provider number.
-
The Medicare item number, date of service and amount paid.
-
Referral details, where requested.
You can upload a PDF or clear photograph of your invoice and payment receipt.
Review the information carefully before submitting your claim.
Step 5:
Receive Your Rebate
Once your claim has been submitted, Medicare will assess it and pay any applicable rebate directly into your nominated bank account.
Services Australia advises that online claims are usually processed and paid within approximately seven days, although processing times may vary.
You can check the progress of your claim through your Medicare online account.
Make sure your bank details are up to date to avoid payment delays.
